Dulled Reality

This painting was started and finished Tuesday of December 23rd of 2025. The dimensions are 16” x 20”. I’ve named this painting, “Dulled reality.” The contents of the painting are chaotic and depict numerous different visuals and concepts. The majority of the canvas is a clash between warm and cool greys, made with dulled blues and reds. Scattered around are holes in the canvas in varying shapes from rectangles to triangles. Now suddenly there is a stark contrast between the colors of the world, and the grey canvas. This is intentional to signify that sometimes you have to look past the clutter, to see reality.

Smack dab in the middle of the painting is a small bright circle – also standing out due to it’s value – and contains the three primary colors red, blue, and yellow. I added lines almost dripping from the circle, and other lines that are meant to suggest a slight spinning motion. As if all the color of the painting were sucked to the middle. As if the colors had retreated to hide.

There are a looot of things that can be left up to interpretation or imagination, but some things were done intentionally. In the top left area of the canvas, there are two rectangular holes almost perpendicular to each other and to me they were meant to be hands of a clock. The brush strokes around it a bit wild, and to be the squiggle to the left is meant to be a question mark. But that’s just an example. Analyzing the entirety of this painting would probably take an hour or two.

At the same time the chaos of the painting either revolves around the colors, or seems to be pushed back from the center. For example, there is a black hand and foot which seem to be reaching inwards, while fish like brushstrokes at the very left seem to be going in the opposite direction. Additionally, a deeper red grey off to the right top side seems to drip away from the center.

The same way that certain events can play into emotions, or banish them because of the severity. But also the way that someone might seem apathetic or uncaring, that doesn’t mean that’s actually true.
